Job Description

This role is to lead System safety engineering activities on a key radar programme which is being developed by a consortium led by Selex-ES. The following details the purpose of the role which will report directly to the Radar Programme Technical Authority.
Purpose:
To develop and maintain appropriate system safety plans and processes
To ensure that these are implemented across partner companies
To review and analyse partner safety engineering work products
To initiate and chair formal safety reviews
To liaise with customer/purchaser safety engineering personnel
To manage safety engineering work products which are contract deliverables to customer/purchaser
To ensure safety engineering solutions are aligned with platform requirements
To identify and categorise both intrinsic and flowed-down system level radar hazards To design viable hardware, firmware, software and mechanical concept mitigation to system hazards
To critically appraise the definition, categorisation and apportionment of flowed-down platform hazards
To generate robust safety case analysis and arguments
To advise on safety-related firmware design and process approach
To advise on safety-related software design and process approach 
Context:
Significant technical liaison is required with the customer, and also leadership of some joint technical activities – via face to face meetings, video conferences, by telephone and by email. This will involve regular travel outside of the UK and will involve presentation of solutions to an International audience.


Key Responsibility Areas

Ensure agreement with platform Chief Engineer’s Office on System Safety and Safety-related Hardware, Software, Firmware and Mechanical issues.
Debate and agree with platform Airworthiness authority on Safety Case approach and content. 
Provide advice and support to customer’s Technical Management on System Safety and associated matters.

Robust Hazard Assessment / Solution Technical Notes.
Firmware Development Plans for Safety-related firmware.
Software Development Plans for Safety-related software.


Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge

Degree in relevant discipline.
Experience in Systems Safety programs within Defence or Aircraft environments.
Demonstrated achievement in the conduct of Systems Safety Assessments and Hazard identification.
Thorough understanding of Systems Safety standards


Intrinsic Job Factors

This is an office based role using display screen equipment. As part of this role you will be expected to travel within the UK and abroad, typically on a monthly basis.
