Parliamentary Affairs Analyst: European Parliament Specialist
The Bank of England’s core purposes are to ensure monetary stability and to contribute to financial stability. Although accountable to Westminster, the Bank also engages with European institutions and the European Parliament. The Public and Internal Communications Division (PICD) manages the Bank’s public relations and internal communications and together with the Media and Publications Division (MPD) works to build public understanding. Within PICD, the Parliamentary Affairs Group (PAG) is responsible for supporting the Bank’s relationship with Parliament.
You will join a small team which supports the Bank by alerting, monitoring and advising staff on both Westminster and European parliamentary and political activities. You will work alongside other team members in reporting and summarising European Parliament committee hearings and other parliamentary events, including plenary sessions. You will also produce briefings on European Parliament topics and processes and be a source of advice for senior Bank staff. You will also be expected to undertake work on the Westminster Parliament and support colleagues in their work on Westminster.
There is the potential to develop a career at the Bank of England which may lead to other areas of the Bank’s work.
Job Requirements
- Knowledge and experience of political and parliamentary processes in the European Parliament and preferably of EU institutions and processes more generally
- To hold a good undergraduate degree
- Evidence of success in your career so far
- The ability to analyse and summarise large quantities of written and oral material succinctly and rapidly
- Good written and oral communication skills
- The ability to work with, and influence staff at all levels
- Willingness to work flexibly and respond to demands out of normal work hours
- A tenacious, enthusiastic team-player and an ability to respond positively to pressure and tight deadlines
- Knowledge and experience of the political and parliamentary processes of Westminster would be helpful
