Job Description
To develop mechanical concepts, models and detailed designswithin the Mechanical Engineering Function at Selex ES Ltd (Edinburgh). The Role will involve working in different business groups across the full Edinburgh Selex ES Ltd portfolio including leading edge technology in the LASER, Advanced Targeting and RADAR products.
Key Responsibility Areas
To design and develop products using company CAD tools within an Integrated Product Team (IPT).
To model and analyse designs using 3D CAD package.
To select manufacturing technologies and materials based on a sound understanding of the mechanical engineering of the product.
To liaise with procurement and suppliers.
To produce and approve the release of Technical Product Specification (TPS).
To support build, integration, test and delivery of products through the complete lifecycle.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge
The successful candidate will have a Mechanical Engineering degree with experience in Mechanical Engineering Design. It is advantageous for the candidate to have experience in working in a team of mechanical engineers in the successful design, development and test of electronics packaging. A proven knowledge of structural and thermal analysis and previous experience in developing equipment for extreme operating environments is desirable. Knowledge and experience in the Mechanical Engineering of RADAR and/or Optical/LASER design would be advantageous. Professional recognition as a Chartered Engineer or proven associated competencies is essential.
The candidate will have knowledge in the use of Computer Aided Design, preferably in Creo Elements/Pro along with working experience of Microsoft office and Product Data Management tools. Verbal and written communication skills are essential in this role as there will be a high level of interface with both internal and external customers. Self-motivation and a degree of flexibility are also a requirement.
Intrinsic Job Factors
This is an office based role using display screen equipment working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment. As part of this role you will be expected to travel possibly both in the UK and abroad, you may also be expected to stay overnight as part of this travel. Working to tight deadlines either on a regular or ad hoc basis will be required.
