UNU-INSTITUTE FOR THE ADVANCED STUDY OF SUSTAINABILITY
(UNU-IASS)

(DUTY STATION: TOKYO, JAPAN)
The UNU-IASS research programme will focus on high-level policy making based on aspects of environmental research, including the science of sustainability, biodiversity, and environmental governance. The Director will have the overall responsibility for fundraising, as well as the direction, organization, administration and programmes of the Institute under the direction of the Rector of the UNU.
Qualifications: A high-quality graduate degree in ecology, geography, engineering, natural resource management, public policy, social sciences or a related field.
Experience: Strong international research background and publications in areas related to the science of sustainability, biodiversity and environmental governance with significant policy bridging experience. A proven record of effective policy leadership in academic/research institutions or international/national civil service and detailed knowledge of the UN and of its functions and activities.
CLOSING DATE: 7 NOVEMBER 2013
Candidates should possess excellent communication skills with fluency in English; one additional official language of the United Nations would be desirable.
