Secretary General

FEPORT (Federation of European Private Port Operators) was established in 1993 with the aim to represent maritime stevedores and terminal operators at European level.
The membership of FEPORT consists of national and regional sector associations in EU Member States, EFTA and accession countries. In addition, many of the main European terminal operators have joined as direct company members.
FEPORT is looking for a new Secretary General, who will be based in Brussels.

Position Summary
The Secretary General is the first ‘port of call' of FEPORT and the face of European private port operators in Brussels. He or she connects EU policy-makers with the membership of the organization and has the final responsibility to ensure that the policies and viewpoints of FEPORT are taken into account in EU policy- and decision-making processes. The Secretary General is responsible for the daily management of FEPORT and is the principal spokesperson for the organization.
The specific responsibilities of the Secretary General include:
• Interest representation and lobbying with the institutions of the European Union;
• Preparation of viewpoints of the organization through close dialogue with members;
• Monitoring of strategic and politically sensitive files;
• Internal and external communication, including media contacts;
• Drafting of reports, position papers, presentations and speeches;
• Human resources and financial-administrative management of the organization;
• Preparation and management of Executive Committee and General Assembly meetings;
• Supervision of projects and partnerships with research and academic institutes.
Ideal Experience
The successful candidate should have substantial experience in lobbying EU institutions, has good knowledge of EU law and brings a relevant network of contacts in Brussels, both at administrative and political level. He or she also has or is able to quickly develop a good understanding of the European private port operators including its challenges and diversity.
The ideal candidate furthermore has experience in managing an organization with a diverse membership, knows how to motivate a small team of collaborators, is able to communicate clearly and credibly at various levels and has the necessary organizational and administrative skills.
