As a trainee you would be working closely together with industry experts within a small but dynamic multinational team, based at the EuropaBio secretariat in Montgomery, central Brussels. This traineeship would provide valuable insights, contacts and experience for such a candidate.

EuropaBio's Industrial Biotech members innovate to create cleaner and greener products to enable Europe and Europeans to make the shift from an economy depended on fossil fuels towards a bioeconomy based on renewable raw materials.

EuropaBio is the voice of the biotechnology industry in Europe, located in Brussels, Belgium. It brings together some 62 corporate and 7 associate members operating worldwide, 4 Bioregions and 20 national biotechnology associations, representing 1800 small and medium sized biotech companies in Europe.

The Opportunity
As a trainee for the IB team you will have an important role to play in supporting the work of the secretariat as a fully integrated member of the team. You will also have the benefit of working within an organisation representing not only Industrial Biotech but also Healthcare and Agricultural Biotechnology. An appreciation of the role of innovation in delivering on the EU's 2020 goals and an understanding of the vital importance of developing EU policy based on the basis of sound science is therefore essential.

Tasks/Projects
The position will be located within EuropaBio’s Industrial Biotech team and is for a five to six month period from early November 2013 to end-March 2014. During this time the trainee will be asked to assist with a range of tasks. These may include requests to:

- Assist in updating, researching and drafting of industrial biotech policy documents and position papers
- Help with the preparation of internal and external communications materials and correspondence for the industrial biotech team
- Monitor press, help to review and summarise news on Industrial Biotech and assist with the preparation of the Association’s internal and external newsletters
- Assist with meeting organisation including preparation for working group, expert group and Council Meetings and assist with the drafting and finalisation of minutes
- Help with monitoring and mapping of developments and activities in and around the European Council, Parliament and Commission on a wide variety of issues
- Help prepare activities related to the forthcoming Presidencies
- Support the team in coordinating and successfully delivering an FP7 project on industrial biotechnology innovation
- Attend some external events and prepare briefing notes to summarise these for the industrial biotech team
- Assist with preparation for the European Forum on Industrial Biotechnology in Reims, France 7-9 October 2014
Candidate Profile
Essential
Essential
- Must be an EU citizen (with the necessary permits to work throughout the EU)
- Must NOT have worked nor have already completed a 12 Month ‘immersion professionnelle’
- University Graduate
- Very high standard of both written and spoken English (office language)
- Strong drafting skills and attention to detail
- Good team player but also capable of working independently
- Able to present work in clear and concise manner
- An interest in sustainability, resource efficiency and the biobased economy
- MS Computer Skills (PowerPoint and Word in particular)
- A good understanding of the European Decision making process
- Good interpersonal skills and personal presentation
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- The ability to produce work of a high standard, to use initiative and to regularly report on progress
Desirable
- Fluency in more than one EU language
- An interest in agriculture, industry, innovation, the environment, climate change and energy production
- A background in EU Affairs and/or Industrial Biotechnology
- A background with FP7 projects
Terms and conditions
Working hours are from 09:00 until 18:00 Monday to Friday with a one hour break for lunch. The trainee will be offered a contract on the basis of ‘immersion professionnelle’, including compensation.
