SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES
This post is located in the Methodology, Education and Training Section, Development and Economic and Social Issues Branch, Research and Right to Development Division, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Methodology, Education and Training Section, and the direct supervision of the Editor, the incumbent:
  • Dispatches publications to all OHCHR clients, including governments, non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies, OHCHR field offices, staff members, academic institutions, individuals and visitors.
  • Receives, checks and registers deliveries of publications from UNOG's Publishing Service and external printers, updates the publications database accordingly, and provides statistics when requested on the stock and distribution of publications.
  • Controls, organize and keeps in order stocks of publications in the spaces allocated for this purpose.
  • Provides back-up for colleagues, as required.
COMPETENCIES
Professionalism
Experience in pouch operations, publications distribution and stock management. Familiarity with the OHCHR publications programme and its database would be an asset. Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
Planning and Organizing
Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources to complete work; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as required.

Considers all those to whom services are provided as 'clients' and seeks to see things from their point of view; identifies clients' needs and matches appropriate solutions; keeps client informed of progress or setbacks in projects; meets timeline for delivery of services to client.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of secondary education or its equivalent commercial school. Successful United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT).
Work Experience: Four years' experience in general support or clerical work, including two years within the UN system, of which preferably at least six months in publications distribution.
Languages: Good knowledge of English or French and working knowledge of the other.
Given that the work is physically demanding and regularly involves handling heavy objects (20 kg), candidates need to be in excellent physical condition and have proven experience of physically demanding work.
