An exciting and challenging opportunity to join the Industrial Apprenticeship Programme and become the future talent of Engineering.
 
The Industrial Apprenticeship is a three-year programme with British Airways Engineering, aimed at developing you to become a professional Aircraft Engineer and assist in the delivery of a world-class engineering operation.
 
The programme is designed to give you a broad understanding of the Engineering Operation whilst gaining the qualifications you need to become a future Aircraft Mechanic. 
 
This programme is ideally suited to 17 – 25 year olds.

The Programme 
The apprenticeship framework structure will consist of you achieving a range of qualifications as follows:
 
Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2
  • Year 1: NVQ level 2 Performing Engineering Operations – Aircraft Maintenance Pathway
  • Year 1: Industrial Awareness Technical Certificate
  • Functional Skills – Maths, English & I.T (level 1 if required)
Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3
  • Year 2 & 3 NVQ Level 3 – Extended Diploma in Engineering following an Aircraft Maintenance Pathway
  • City & Guilds Qualification – Aircraft Maintenance Category A License
  • Functional Skills – Maths, English & I.T (level 2)

Along side the apprenticeship framework you will spend your first year of the programme developing your practical and theoretical skills necessary for aircraft maintenance, whilst rotating around the key areas of Engineering gaining invaluable experience in the work place. During this time you will be on a one-year fixed term contract. 
 
At the end of the first year you will go through a selection process and if successful you will continue on to the Advanced Apprenticeship.
 
Whilst obtaining your qualifications, you will gain first hand experience on live aircraft, systems and component overhaul and testing. Along with your exposure to live aircraft you will follow a British Airways development programme to develop your behaviours to work in an Engineering Environment.
 
On completion of the apprenticeship you may be offered a full-time contract as a mechanic subject to the appropriate selection process.

The Individual

Requirements
  • You have or you are expected to gain 5 GCSE’s A* – C including (or equivalent) Maths and English by September 2014
  • Either have or are expected to gain an Engineering qualification (this could be across any Engineering discipline not just Aircraft Related) by September 2014 OR alternatively have been employed in an Engineering role for a minimum of 9 months
  • Must be able to travel to Heathrow and Gatwick and work a variety of shift patterns
  • Initially based at Heathrow but with the ability to travel. You may have placements at our other Maintenance Bases such as Gatwick and Cardiff
  • If over 18 you will need to be prepared to work variety of shift patterns including nights, early and late shifts and 12-hour shifts. Under 18’s will work restricted shift patterns
  • Be available to start Autumn 2014
