Project DescriptionWe have an exciting opportunity to pursue a PhD within the Power Electronics, Drives and Machines Research Group of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Based at Newcastle University, the research will be incorporated with work of the £18M Underpinning Power Electronics initiative from the EPSRC Centre for Power Electronics. The study will involve working closely with other researchers both in Newcastle and at other top UK universities.

The successful applicant will have access to top academics and leading research facilities. They will contribute to the EPSRC Centre for Power Electronics annual conference and attend other international research events as well as take an active role integrating their work with that of other collaborating universities.

Value of the Award and EligibilityDepending on how you meet the EPSRC's eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to a full or partial award. A full award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and an annual stipend of £13,726 (2013-14). A partial award covers fees at the UK/EU rate only.

In certain circumstances the School may augment the annual award to a maximum of £19,000 for students of exceptionally high calibre.

Person SpecificationApplicants should have, or expect to achieve, an upper-second-class or first-class honours degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline (preferable electrical). Applicants with a strong background in electrical machine drives are encouraged.
