Are you interested in cutting edge research on cancer metabolism and metabolic syndrome diseases?
Cancer metabolism is one of the emerging hot topics in cancer research, aiming to elucidate the metabolic needs of cancer cells to identify new therapies. One increasingly important risk factor for cancer are metabolic syndrome diseases such as diabetes and obesity. One of the most powerful techniques to address these metabolic needs is metabolomics and fluxomics, two technologies that are only available in a few labs worldwide. My lab (http://www.vrc-lab.be/sarah-maria-fendt) is applying both techniques to investigate cancer metabolism in the context of metabolic syndrome diseases. We are a young and highly dynamic team working on multidisciplinary projects, which are facilitated through exciting national and international collaborations with other top research groups in the field.
You will work:
  • on an exciting research project focused on liver cancer metabolism and metabolic syndrome diseases
  • on metabolomics and fluxomics with state-of-the-art equipment (LC-MS / GC-MS)
  • on integration of experimental data with computational modeling
  • on a medical relevant topic
  • in a young and dynamic research network.
  • in an international environment. The Vesalius Research Center at VIB is located in the heart of Flanders and is one of the leading research institutes in Belgium and in Europe. VIB host at its four locations more than 1300 scientists from over 60 countries.
Your background:
  • you have a PhD in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, systems biology, life sciences, bio- or chemical engineering
  • you are interested in metabolism
  • you have strong expertise in liver cancer (HCC) or metabolic syndrome diseases research
  • you have a strong expertise in research based on mouse models
  • you have strong expertise in mammalian cell culture (transfection, infection, viability staining,..) and molecular biology (WB, qPCR, cloning, IP,…)
  • experience in MS, HPLC, inflammation research, metabolomics or fluxomics is a plus
  • you think outside the box
  • you like to take the lead on challenging projects
