Project DescriptionL:

The Workforce Connections project, an Associate Award under the FIELD Support LWA, supports USAID’s E3 Office of Education to advance the achievement of Goal 2 of the USAID Education Strategy: improved ability of tertiary and workforce development programs to produce a workforce with relevant skills to support country development goals by 2015. FHI 360 will achieve these goals by building on existing efforts to create a dynamic, broad-based learning network; offering tools, ideas, and feedback to field Missions interested in expanding their workforce development activities; and contributing to and enhancing the training and professional development activities developed to date by E3.
Responsibilities:
The Workforce Connections Intern will work directly with the project team to assist with research and conduct literature reviews, prepare annotated bibliographies and assist with preparing project documents based on the literature reviews and project data, culminating in a series of documents providing an overview of the portfolio with a technical focus on workforce development. The Intern will also be responsible for maintaining and updating the contact list for members of the learning network. In close collaboration with project staff, the intern will also perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform desk research for reports, literature reviews, or annotated bibliographies, as assigned, on topical areas such as workforce development, value chains, business-education partnerships, youth and gender;
  • Design and update databases of workforce development projects and learning networks;
  • Develop brief thematic factsheets on workforce development and other relevant topical areas based on Workforce Connections’ portfolio as assigned;
  • Write, format and edit learning products such as reports, briefs, blog posts or other web content, and the Workforce Connections Newsletter for broader dissemination
  • Responsible for project communications, meeting and schedule management, and other administrative tasks to support the project team;
  • Responsible for coordinating travel logistics and assisting with expense reports.

Qualifications:
  • Requires intern to be a recent university graduate, or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner.
  • Ability to navigate basic productivity software essential; advanced Excel skills a plus
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Must be available to work 20 – 30 hours/week to work in Washington DC from March-June 2014.
