Researcher Company: The Eastern Cape Appropriate Technology Unit (ecatu)

The Eastern Cape Appropriate Technology Unit (ECATU) was established as a Schedule 3 Public Entity, with its offices at Mount Pleasant Farm in Mthatha, and reports to the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Bhisho. The Organisation has a considerable track record in the planning and implementation of programmes/projects aimed at introducing appropriate technologies and sustainable poverty eradication methodologies in rural and poor communities.

The following position exists to be filled:

Researcher

An appropriate tertiary qualification in Social Science and Economic Research. A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.

Key responsibilities: •The incumbent will work closely with the Research and Development Manager to identify appropriate technologies for the requirements of poor communities • Engage and provide technical advice to stakeholders on identified research themes • Analyse research findings to make recommendations that inform policy and decision making • Compile research briefs and write articles for publications and undertake research international best practice • Represent the unit’s interest in multiplayer research projects and disseminate research findings to stakeholders.

Requirements: Relevant qualifications • Good understanding of challenges of poor communities and individuals • Understanding of the role of appropriate technologies in poverty eradication • Understanding of key Government’s key policy and strategic framework • Flexible and independent thinker, innovative and self-starter • Research experience • Understanding of research methodologies and techniques • Good analytical communication skills (verbal, written and report writing).
