The British Medical Association (BMA) is the professional association and independent trade union representing the interests of doctors and medical students across the UK. The BMA is also a major stakeholder in the development of healthcare policy.

We are looking to recruit an economist/research manager as one of two deputies to our Chief Economist/Head of Health Policy and Economic Research. The successful applicant will be an experienced economist with expertise in labour or health economics and experience of managing a small team of research professionals. You will work in a small team that provides high quality economic and policy analysis and strategic and research support to the doctors’ committees, central and regional structures of the BMA.

With excellent written, research and interpersonal skills, you will contribute to the development of BMA policy on a wide range of issues affecting doctors and the NHS. Your work will be both internal and external facing.

You will hold either a higher degree in economics or a related discipline or have commensurate experience. You will need to demonstrate excellent analytical skills, and possess highly-developed political awareness and sensitivity. A well developed understanding of health and social policy, experience in working in a policy environment and operation of the NHS is essential.
