Youth Programmes Manager VSO

Youth Programmes Manager (Maternity Cover 6-9 Months)

£42,564 Per annum

Closing date: 10 April 2012

VSO helps make change happen. By bringing people together to share skills, build capabilities and promote understanding, we assist the fight against poverty in developing countries.

2012/13 marks a number of significant and exciting changes for youth programming within VSO. The new youth position paper provides a policy framework to guide effective engagement with young people in the fight against poverty across our global network. The scale up of international youth volunteering programmes through ICS (International Citizenship Service) provides an excellent opportunity to continue to strengthen VSO’s approach to youth volunteering and enable thousands of young people around the world to contribute to the fight against poverty.

The Head of Youth Programmes will lead VSO’s existing youth volunteering programmes. The largest of these, and therefore the largest part of the portfolio, is ICS. A core function of this role in 2012/13 will be to lead a team to support the integration of ICS into VSO mainstream programming. The position will also lead VSO’s thinking around youth and development, building on existing work and on National Volunteering programmes. They will collaborate with people, partners and networks across the world, and position VSO within global youth networks.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of VSO's ICS programme in 14 countries and ensure that annual targets for delivery and quality standards are established and met. The post holder will represent VSO's ICS programme within the ICS consortium and will be responsible for ensuring reporting requirements are fully met. They will also lead the programmes teams to work effectively with programme offices to ensure successful implementation of the programme.

This is a very exciting opportunity for a strong leader with significant programme management and people’s management experience, with the ability to deliver high performance through working across cultures. The post-holder will be closely working and collaborating with the Africa and Asia &Pacific management teams.
