As an Aircraft Appearance Apprentice you will get the opportunity to work on one of the most modern fleets in the world, from the Airbus A380 to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
 
The Aircraft Appearance Apprenticeship is a two-year programme with British Airways Engineering running in conjunction with Farnborough College of Technology.
 
The programme is based around providing a world-class external paint programme and cabin environment in order to boost our customer satisfaction. 
 
This programme is ideally suited to 17 – 25 year olds.

The Programme 
 
The apprenticeship framework structure will consist of you achieving a range of qualifications as follows: -
  • NVQ Level 2 – Performing Engineering Operations
  • Level 2 BTEC Diploma – In Engineering
  • Functional Skills – Maths, English, IT if required
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
Along side the apprenticeship framework you will spend your time on the programme carrying out a range of painting, servicing and maintenance tasks from seat refurbishments, to galley repairs and in-flight entertainment systems. During this time you will be on a paid two-year fixed term contract. 
 
Along with your exposure to live aircraft you will follow a British Airways development programme to develop your behaviours to work in an Engineering Environment.
 
On completion of the apprenticeship you may be offered a full-time contract as a cabin mechanic subject to the appropriate selection process.
 
Requirements
  • You have or are you expected to gain 3 GCSE’s A* – D including (or equivalent) Maths and English by September 2014
  • Either have or are expected to gain an engineering/refurbishment/design qualification (this could be across any discipline not just Aircraft Related) by September 2014 OR have been employed in an engineering/refurbishment/design role for a minimum of 9 months
  • Initially based at Heathrow but with the ability to travel. You may have placements at our other Maintenance Bases such as Gatwick and Cardiff
  • If over 18 you will need to be prepared to work variety of shift patterns including nights, early and late shifts and 12-hour shifts. Under 18’s will work restricted shift patterns
  • Be available to start Autumn 2014
