MECHANICAL ENGINEER AT COWI'S OFFICE IN INDIA
Responsibilities
You will be part of our team of Indian mechanical engineers and CAD operators. You will act at the liaison between the office in India and our Danish offices, contribute to design on some of the projects executed in cooperation between Denmark and India, and act as sparring partner to our Indian colleagues in mechanical and ventilation engineering.
You will have a central role to play in distributed work, as you will help realise our ambition to increase our market shares, turnover and profitability. You will also work together with the Chennai office’s other Danes, including Danish colleagues that visit the office to prepare for new projects etc.

You will refer to our Danish office manager of the Chennai office, who primarily operates from Denmark and regularly visits India.
Preferably, the one-year secondment is to start in May 2014.

About you
- You are a mechanical engineer with at least three years of experience in designing mechanical and ventilation installations.
- You can act as mentor and sparring partner to our Indian colleagues in mechanical engineering.
- You understand cultural differences and opportunities.
- You have good English skills, in speech and writing.
- You have great cooperation skills, and the ability to build bridges between project participants and to guide/lead colleagues.
- You are sympathetic of nature, and communicate and resolve conflicts in a smooth, constructive way.
- You are proactive, ambitious and take initiative.
- You are structured, quality-minded and flexible. You take pride in delivering good quality on time.
- You thrive in a busy environment with deadlines, challenges and changes.
- Knowledge of Revit MEP is an advantage.
Background
For years, COWI’s strategy has involved using distributed work on design assignment, whenever possible. Indian engineers and CAD operators are assigned to projects in Denmark and cooperate with their Danish colleagues.
As a consequence, the Danish Building Division, which numbers some 400 employees, operates an office in Chennai, which employs 50 Indian engineers and CAD operators who work on projects in Denmark and other countries.
This boosts our competitive capacity and increases our flexibility in terms of staffing and deliverables.
To continue to provide high-quality services, a smoother cooperation flow and updated Danish know-how, Danish electrical, mechanical and structural engineers are also part of the office. Our current mechanical engineer in Chennai returns to Denmark in the summer of 2014, so we are looking for someone to replace him.
