The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Deputy Work Package Officer position.

Description of directorate/division/group

The Detector group is part of the Neutron Technology Division under the Science Directorate. The Neutron Technology Division provides the technological tools required for the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at the ESS. The detector group is currently focused on performing the necessary research and development for alternatives to He-3 detectors for neutron detection.

Description of main responsibilities

The main responsibilities for this role will be to support the detector group; in particular, this is as Deputy work package Officer for Neutron Scattering Science detector systems. This includes tasks as project planning, budgeting, preparation for procurement, logistics, negotiations, administration, project reporting, supplier contact, and in-kind contact. Additionally general support of the group for admin functions where it is needed. Preparation and support to grant applications and administration and dealing with all in-kind administrations are key parts of the position.

Qualifications

  • Experience with budgeting, planning and logistics;
  • Prior experience in an small-medium enterprise would be of benefit;
  • Excellent numerical and accounting skills;
  • A flexible and proactive approach and a collaborative manner;
  • Experience managing diverse projects from conception to implementation, with limited supervision;
  • A hands-on approach is helpful, as is a demonstrated tendancy to seek out original solutions to difficult problems;
  • An attention to detail;
  • Results driven;
  • Exceptional organisational and bookkeeping skills;
  • Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.
The position is best suited to a flexible person, with a range of disparate skills. A bachelors degree is an advantage. Experience of working internationally is highly desirable. It would be expected as part of the position that new skills would be acquired, and that appropriate training would be provided to this end.
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period depending on applicant. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
