Tuwezeshe Young Women Advisory Panel
Tuwezeshe Young Women Advisory Panel
TuWezeshe Akina Dada Africa-UK Young Women’s Empowerment Movement, is a three-year women and girl’s rights project funded by Comic Relief’s Common Ground Initiative. Working across the UK, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Somaliland, our vision is to equip young women with the skills they need to be leaders in the fight against gender based violence. The movement consists of the TuWezeshe Fellowship, our one-year leadership training and mentoring program, where participants will learn core leadership skills, have the chance to influence women’s rights policy, speak on a range of national and international platforms, and implement an advocacy project of their own design
We believe it is essential that young women’s voices are at the center of our work and at the forefront of our project. This is why we are establishing a Young Women’s Advisory Panel (YWAP) who will hold the project to account, advising us on how best to implement our activities and, more importantly, how best to support our participants. As members of the YWAP you will have the unique opportunity to shape an international project from the inside, gaining skills that will support your development as leaders and innovators in your own right as well as supporting the fight for women’s rights and freedoms.
YOUNG WOMEN’S ADVISORY PANEL (YWAP)
The Young Women’s Advisory Panel (YWAP) will last from July 2017 – June 2019. With a minimum of 5 and maximum of 7 panellists, the YWAP will meet on a bi-annual basis to discuss the progress of the project and provide critical feedback and advice regarding its implementation. The YWAP will help raise the concerns, needs or opinions of participants as well as identifying any in-country challenges young women face in regards to VAWG, and other emerging forms of gender-based violence. An integral part of the project, panellists will be actively engaged in at least one project activity and will help to collect and share the stories and experiences of participants. The YWAP will be supported by a project liaison officer and will be directly accountable to Children’s Dignity Forum.
Although this is a voluntary position, panellists will be reimbursed for all travel expenditure and any other costs related to the project that have been previously authorised. Panellists will also receive a certificate of recognition at the end of the program as well as the opportunity to develop their own leadership skills and support up-and-coming young women leaders.

Knowledge, expertise and/or experience that is relevant to the project’s interests (e.g. gender-based violence, women’s rights, youth empowerment, leadership etc.);
