Deputy Director General The International Rice Research Institute

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), based in the Philippines, is the oldest and largest international agricultural research institute in Asia. It is an autonomous, non profit rice research and education organization with staff based in 14 countries in Asia and Africa. Its mission is to reduce poverty and hunger, improve the health of rice farmers and consumers, and ensure that rice production is environmentally sustainable.

IRRI is in search for a Deputy Director General, who, as a member of the Institute’s senior Management Team, will be responsible for strategic supervision and oversight of the Institute’s corporate governance, and host country (Philippines), community and local government relations, in addition to leading Institute organizational units as assigned in line with areas of professional expertise.

This appointment is a highly prestigious role within the Philippines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To advise IRRI on all aspects concerning governance and regulatory compliance, host country (Philippines) and community relations;
  • To work closely with the other members of the IRRI senior management group to enable the Institute to meet its mission;
  • To provide secretariat services to the IRRI Board
  • To strategically manage the assigned organizational units in keeping with IRRI’s policies, procedures and values, so that they add value in a cost-effective and collaborative manner.

Education / Experience:

  • Earned graduate degree in a technical field, preferably in agriculture and related sciences or relevant experience in a field related to the work of the institute
  • At least 10 years’ experience with a proven track record in government, inter-governmental, and/or international organization, with demonstrated knowledge in public administration at either the national or international level and demonstrated knowledge of key management processes and corporate governance frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience in transacting with the Philippine government
  • Good command of written and spoken English
