Senior Professional Nurse - Infection Control (C3)

Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse is a prerequisite, as is a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Nurse. A relevant qualification in Infection Control would be advantageous. Candidates should be self-motivated self-starters who are able to work under pressure and independently, and exhibit a meticulous, well-organised work method. Sound diplomacy, discretion and interpersonal skills will be expected of the successful candidate, along with proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English. Computer literacy (MS Office) is essential. Candidates should possess their own transport and a valid driver’s licence, and should have been declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre.
Duties and responsibilities include: • Identifying potential risks and presenting measures to prevent or control infection
• Preparing reports as requested by the hospital, National Department of Health or any other source • Assisting with evaluation, sterilisation, disinfection and cleaning procedures in the hospital • Running surveillance programmes in the hospital • Investigating infection outbreaks and evaluating set interventions and infection control measures • Supervising patient care procedures, staff health and environmental hygiene where appropriate • Supervising staff who are nursing patients in isolation • Providing education and training on infection control • Speedy notification of the appropriate authorities of formidable, highly infectious or contagious diseases • Undertaking research • Stock control • Any other responsibilities as requested by the Hospital or Infection Control committee.
