Trade Policy Analyst

In accordance with WTO Staff Regulations and Staff Rules and WTO Pension Plan Regulations. The World Trade Organization offers an attractive compensation package including an annual net salary (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), dependency benefits, pension plan, health insurance scheme, separation grant and 30 days annual leave. The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill a position of Trade Policy Analyst in the Trade Policies Review Division. Serving staff members interested in the position are also invited to apply.

General Functions

Under the supervision of a senior professional of the Division, the incumbent will be involved in the Secretariat's work programme on the preparation of WTO Trade Policy Reviews. Specific duties will include:

1. Assisting in the research and analysis of economic and trade-related policies of WTO Members, individually and in the context of their membership of regional trade agreements.

2. Participating in official missions.

3. Drafting texts and preparing statistics.

4. Servicing meetings of the Trade Policy Review Body.

5. Other relevant work of the Division, including the preparation of briefing notes on the economic and trade policies of individual WTO Members and of regional trade agreements for the Director-General and senior management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

An advanced university degree in economics, including relevant studies in international trade.
Knowledge:

Demonstrated ability to carry out trade policy-oriented research. Ability to organize research materials, to write and communicate clearly, to meet deadlines, to work under time pressure, and to cooperate with other colleagues in a diverse international setting.
Work Experience:

At least two years of professional or academic experience in dealing with trade-related policy issues is required.
Languages:

Excellent knowledge of English and a good knowledge of another working language (French or Spanish) are required. Additional languages (Arabic or Chinese) would be an advantage.
