In accordance with WTO Staff Regulations and Staff Rules and WTO Pension Plan Regulations. The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill the position of Statistical Assistant in the Regional Trade Agreements (RTA) Section of the Trade Policies Review Division (TPRD). Serving staff members interested in the position are also invited to apply.

General Functions

Under the supervision of the statistical officer and the Head of the RTA Section of the TPRD, the incumbent will be involved in assisting in the preparation and analysis of data for the Factual Presentations of RTAs prepared by the RTA Section of the TPRD as well as other activities related to work in the Committee on Regional Trade Agreements (CRTA).

Specific duties would include:

1. Assisting in data processing, including the tariff (most-favoured-nation and preferential) and import data (bilateral and global) received from RTA parties.

2. Assisting in compiling data from other sources such as the United Nations Statistics Division Commodity Trade Statistics Database, the Eurostat database and other WTO databases.

3. Presenting tariff analysis in tables and charts showing the evolution of the agreements and of intra-RTA and global trade in goods, services and foreign direct investment.

4. Assisting in preparing tables and charts as required for the work of the Committee on Reegional Trade Agreements and for the Director General's Annual Overview of Developments in the Trading System.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Completed secondary education and/or equivalent technical training in statistical tools and methods.
Knowledge:

Good knowledge of tariff and trade classifications; good knowledge of applied statistics software such as MS Excel.
Work Experience:

Three to four years of relevant practical experience.
Languages:

Fluency in English is required to enable communication both orally and in writing explanatory notes; working knowledge of French or Spanish would be an asset.
