Reports to: Senior Nutrition & Health Technical Advisor
Location: Action Against Hunger – USA, New York office, with approx. 20% of travel
Action Against Hunger is part of the ACF International network which provides humanitarian relief in over 40 countries worldwide in the sectors of nutrition, health, water/sanitation, & food security. ACF-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages operations in 7 countries: Cambodia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Sudan & Uganda. ACF-USA, has over $45 million in programs, approximately 60 permanent staff based in NYC, 100 expatriate employees in the missions, & over 1,200 national staff. Additional growth is anticipated.
Summary of position
As a member of the ACF-USA technical team and specific focal point for a portfolio of countries, the NUT Technical Advisor will support the development and implementation of NUT interventions, will influence the strategy and multi-sector approach, and will be part of the global humanitarian NUT sector development and learning. Specifically, the main responsibilities are to provide Technical Support and Guidance to Nutrition and Health interventions by:
  • supporting a number of country programs,
  • providing technical leadership to the ACF Health and Nutrition sector,
  • participating in the NUT sector external coordination, representation and communication,
  • participating in the selection, placement and training of NUT human resources.

Essential requirements
  • Post-graduate degree in Human Nutrition, Public Health, sociology, anthropology, medicine, or related field
  • A minimum of 4 years work experience in NUT programs with an international humanitarian organization, working in emergency and post-crisis humanitarian contexts, leading all steps of Project Cycle Management
  • Excellent knowledge of technical fields related to Health and Nutrition which may include NUT-related Public Health, Community Mobilization, Monitoring & Evaluation;
  • Good working knowledge of CMAM and IMAM, SMART, SQEAC, KAP, IYCF, iCCm, or other NUT programming. Applied knowledge of malnutrition causal framework, epidemiology, research, and behavior change preferred. Applied research or technical development experience, involvement in the development of guidance and support tools and methodologies.
  • Good working knowledge of nutrition related software (EPiInfo, ENA, SPSS, etc.) and MS Office
  • Genuine interest in & commitment to the humanitarian principles of Action Against Hunger
  • Capacity to represent the organization within the ACF network & externally to other humanitarian actors, funding agencies & private donors.
  • Must have strong organizational skills & ability to pay attention to detailed work.
  • Ability to take initiative & prioritize multiple tasks with minimum supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently & as a member of a team
  • Excellent written & verbal English communication skills are essential
  • Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish preferred
The salary range for the NUT Technical Advisor position is $64,000. ACF-USA provides all staff with an attractive benefits package.
