Financial Manager

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the monthly accounting activity by ensuring an accurate and timely close for financial reporting; managing the annual organizational audit, along with supporting all donor related audits including the support for the country audits. 
  • Create and maintain organizational accounting calendar, scheduling the finance team’s monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes. 
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial data, timely identification and corrections of errors of transactions posted in the General Ledger. 
  • Produce audit-ready monthly financial statements, in compliance with GAAP. Manage Form 990 preparations. 
  • Maintain all balance sheet accounting, producing consistent and accurate supporting schedules and reconciliations. 
  • Maintain net asset records for temporarily and permanently restricted funds. 
  • Accrue public sector grant revenue and release temporarily restricted revenue monthly. 
  • Reconcile invested reserve fund. Update monthly invested reserves memo. 
  • Support and administer filing of required reporting with the IRS, states, USAID, and watchdog agencies including the support in administering the filing in the U.K.  
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of accounting policies and procedures. Ensure consistent application of internal controls throughout the organization. Provide periodic training to staff on internal control procedures and accounting tools. 
  • Update and maintain standard accounting forms. 
  • Oversee accounting for corporate credit card program. 
  • Participate, as needed, in planning and problem solving meetings. 
  • In conjunction with the Director of Finance and COO maintain and update financial systems. Provide other department/staff with information required to carry out their assigned responsibilities. 
  • Keep abreast of changes in regulations which may affect the accounting functions of the organization.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and two years of experience as an accountant for a large conservation nonprofit. 
  • Experience with USAID-funded projects, Serenic Navigator for MS Dynamics and Jet Reports.
