2.JOB PURPOSE:

The Directorate of Women, Gender andDevelopment (WGDD) in collaboration with the Department of Peace and Security(DPS) wishes to recruit Experts on Gender with skills on peace and securityissues in conflict and post-conflict countries. The successful candidates willhave proven gender based-violence in the context of peace and security. Theconsultants should have practical knowledge and experience in applyinginternational and African regional standards for gender equality and women’srights with the aim of strengthening capacities for gender sensitivity.

3.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Head ofthe AU Liaison Office in Jubaand the Director of WGDD the consultant willundertake the following tasks:

i. Sensitize Peace Support Operations(PSOs) on promotion and protection of women rights particularly Gender BasedViolence (GBV)

ii. Popularize on the ground the UNSCResolution 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889 and 1960 and all AU policies related togender issues as the SDGEA, the Protocol on Women’s Rights in Africa, the AUgender Policy, the AU gender Training Manual and the PCRD Policy Framework.

iii. Support the activities of all relevantstakeholders in the prevention of and response to GBV within the context ofhumanitarian action in the country.

iv. Record, monitor and report on all cases of GBVthrough the Head of AU Liaison Offices to the Director of WGDD and PSD.

v. Play a role of an early warning system forcases of Gender based Violence in the Liaison Office and then monitor andreport to WGDD and Peace and Security Department their observations on theground.

vi. Perform any other duties as directed by theSupervisor(S)

4. EDUCATIONALQUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Candidatesmust have a minimum a Bachelor inGender related to peace and security studies,Gender and development, Sociology, Law or other relevant discipline.

5.WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Candidatesmust have at least 5 Years work experience with a Bachelor in a related fieldwith Government , NGO, Think tank, or similar multilateral, regional orinternational Institution as:

  • An Expert on GVB
  • Substantial work in gender and peace and security in Africa
  • Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation

6:SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Gender Based Violence and Women’sRights:

  • Work experience as an Expert on GBV in the context of conflict or/and post-conflict situations in Africa
  • Demonstrated specialized and practical knowledge of international and regional instruments on promotion and protection of women’s rights, specially the AU Gender Architecture.
  • Experience in Monitoring and Evaluationon GBV

Development and OperationalEffectiveness:

  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to build strong relationships with WGDD and DPS

7: AGE REQUIREMENT

Candidates must preferably bebetween 30 to 40 years old

8: LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

Proficiency in AU Language, but knowledge of another of the AU working languages (Arabic, English, French andPortuguese) would be an added advantage.

10. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT

The appointment shall be made on short term contract for aperiod of 6 months renewable, subject to satisfactory performance andavailability of funds

The salaryattached to the position is a monthly consultancy fees of 6,700.23 USD forinternational Consultants and 5,733.27 for Local Consultants.
