Program Assistant (Fulbright)

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking individuals for the position of Program Assistant (Fulbright) in Public Affairs Section (PAS).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required: NOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM. Items 1-7 are ALL REQUIRED 1. Honors degree in liberal arts, education, social sciences, international relations or related field is required. 2. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible work experience in academic, administration, or international exchanges, or similar experience is required. 3. English level IV (fluent) - writing/reading/speaking is required. (This will be tested).4. The job holder must have a thorough knowledge of U.S. and South African educational, cultural, social, and political systems and institutions in order to match grantees with appropriate exchange programs and academic institutions. 5. Must have knowledge of policies, and guidelines of the J. William Fulbright Board Scholarships. 6. The incumbent must have the ability to develop and maintain extensive high-level contacts in academic circles and the analytical ability to prioritize and encourage a two-way exchange. Must have cross-cultural communication skills and tact to deal with U.S. and South African applicants and grantees from diverse backgrounds and interests. 7. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite 2007 – Basic Excel and Basic Word. (This will be tested)

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position: The incumbent serves as a principal advisor to the Country Public Affairs Officer, Cultural Affairs Officer, and Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer (Fulbright) on U.S. and South African educational affairs and manages the countrywide Fulbright Program in South Africa for U.S. students, scholars, senior specialists, and lecturer/researchers.
