Cullinan Diamond Mine is situated in the town of Cullinan, 30km east of Pretoria. The mine is currently mining at a depth of 747 metres using mechanised trackless block-cave mining.

Rigger: Underground Projects

In this role, the incumbent will be required to conduct legal-related inspections on lifting equipment, lifting tackle and general rigging in an underground environment. He/she will be responsible for the construction of new projects underground, and will be required to maintain and install equipment according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Install crushers, conveyor belts and rock breakers according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications
• Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act’s regulations, as well as manufacturing and company standards
• Investigate, diagnose and perform trade-related maintenance and repairs on equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements
• Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Foreman
• Develop, modify, construct and install related equipment required for the safe operation of all engineering equipment
• Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure
• Operate trackless equipment related to the workstream according to work requirements and departmental procedures
• Initiate changes and modify equipment according to organisational procedure
• Conduct general rigging in an underground environment
• Be responsible for housekeeping in the work area and workshop
• Work according to the mine’s Code of Practice and report any observations of this not being done
• Ensure personal and co-workers’ adherence to and compliance with Security and the Company’s SHE objectives.

Requirements:

• Qualification as a Rigger with a Trade Certificate obtained from a recognised/accredited institution
• A minimum of Standard 10/Grade 12
• A valid Code EB (08) Public Driver’s Licence
• Previous experience in underground engineering projects
• A pass mark on the Vienna Assessment - Level 2+ (the test will be conducted on the Mine)
• Sound planning, leadership and organisational abilities
• A high level of multi-skilling abilities
• The ability to work independently and as part of the team
• Independence, self-motivation, proactive thinking and the ability to do own job planning
• Sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English
• The ability and willingness to work overtime, be on standby and be available for call-outs should the need arise.
