Cullinan Diamond Mine is situated in the town of Cullinan, 30km east of Pretoria. The mine is currently mining at a depth of 747 metres using mechanised trackless block-cave mining.

Senior C&I Technician

In this role, the incumbent will be required to maintain, service, repair, modify and improve electronics, electrical and mechanical instruments and communications within the mining and plant areas.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Perform C&I-related activities on equipment/instruments and systems
• Benchmark, monitor and evaluate technology in order to ensure continuous improvement in the direct work environment
• Investigate and diagnose problems and breakdowns to determine resource requirements and order spares
• Maintain communication networks in accordance with Group standards
• Diagnose faults on industrial instrumentation and control equipment
• Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance work on all C&I equipment to comply with product technical specifications
• Coordinate and monitor equipment availability to ensure adherence to production parameters
• Continuously analyse equipment efficiencies to recommend or implement improvements and changes in order to maximise operations
• Examine, test and repair control and instrumentation equipment in the Siemens PLC and Adroit SCADA environment
• Maintain instrumentation documentation
• Supervise and advise on the installation and maintenance of C&I equipment
• Plan extensions and modifications to the existing instrumentation infrastructure
• Attend to the relevant administrative functions, such as datapack (loop drawing) management and change control
• Install and modify new systems
• Plan and control the C&I budget
• Be responsible for Safety, Health and Environmental issues in the Section
• Plan and manage training for personnel in the Section
• Work according to the mine’s Code of Practice and report any observations of this not being done
• Ensure personal and co-workers’ adherence to and compliance with Security and the Company’s SHE objectives.

Requirements:

• Qualification as a Technician with a National Diploma through T3 with Instrumentation and Process Control, or S4 and P2 Process Control Diploma
• A Trade Certificate and N6 with Instrumentation and Process Control
• A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience
• A valid Code EB (08) Public Driver’s Licence
• Extensive knowledge of and full configuration and programming skills in Siemens S5 and S7 PLC hardware and software and Adroit SCADA software configuration
• Sound knowledge of computer systems and ethernet networks
• The ability to lead and guide a team. Sound knowledge of mining and metallurgical diamond process will be advantageous.
