COUNTRY DIRECTOR, WWF-CAMBODIA

We are looking for a visionary and results-oriented Country Director to develop and lead an effective, high-level national representation for WWF in Cambodia. This role represents an extremely exciting opportunity for a proven leader with a strong track record of leading a nationwide operation, and with the capability to establish and grow WWF’s presence and impact in Cambodia acrossconservation, fundraising, policy advocacy, financial management, human resources, and communications.

The Greater Mekong region is one of the biologically richest places on the planet; its varied natural resources support the livelihoods and well-being of millions of people in mainland Southeast Asia. WWF-Greater Mekong – on the ground in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam – is working to conserve the region’s biodiversity and build a secure and sustainable future for people and wildlife. 

The Country Director provides vision, leadership, management, and effective high-level national representation for WWF in Cambodia and is accountable for delivery of the Greater Mekong Strategic Plan in Cambodia.. He/she directs, manages and is accountable for all activities of WWF-Cambodia related to conservation, fundraising, policy advocacy, financial management, human resources management, and communications activities.
He/she has legal representation of WWF-Cambodia and advocates on behalf of organization’s agenda, building institutional relationships and promoting cooperative programme activities with national partners. He/she manages the program with an annual budget of approximately 3 million USD. This role has a marked contribution to the development and implementation of the Action Plan of the Cambodia Country Office, as a part of the regional Greater Mekong Strategic Plan..


Base location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia


Key requirements:

·    Master’s degree in natural resources management, environmental/conservation management, development studies, or in relevant fields
·    Thorough understanding of Cambodia geography, society, culture, socio-economic, conservation and development issues, the political situation and the country’s relationship and significance in the wider region
·    7 years of experience in a leading role and management of an organisation, 3 years of which should be in the Greater Mekong region (preferably in Cambodia), with demonstrated success in managing multi-cultural teams
·    Proven experience of managing a country program with >3 million USD budget and >40 staff
·    Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans
·    Experience in environment, conservation and/or NGO sector is preferable
·    Experience of working and negotiating with Government officials and/or donors at all levels, and working with key regional and international institutions e.g. ADB, ASEAN, and the Mekong River Commission
