Chairperson

Applications are being sought for the role of Chairperson of the Planning Assessment Commission. This is a part-time role, accountable to the Minister for Planning. The NSW Planning Assessment Commission (Commission) is a statutory body set up under the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and key to maintaining public confidence and the integrity in the NSW planning system.
The Chairperson leads and manages the Commission, which determines applications for major developments under Ministerial delegation. The Commission conducts public hearings, makes independent expert recommendations on major developments, and provides independent expert advice to the Minister and the Secretary of the Department of Planning and Environment on a broad range of planning and development matters significant to the State.  As the Commission is an autonomous body, governed by strict codes of conduct, probity and integrity, the Chairperson must set an example of ethical behaviour and integrity.
The Chairperson must ensure that corporate strategy, plans and comprehensive management processes are in place to efficiently and effectively manage resources, meet the Commission’s objectives, and comply with reporting requirements.
The Chairperson must have a high level of specialist skill in at least one of the following areas: planning, architecture, the environment, urban design, land economics, traffic and transport, law, engineering, tourism, infrastructure planning, or government and public administration.
The Chairperson must be a strong leader and highly regarded in their field. The role demands proven leadership and communication skills, demonstrated high level analytical skills and experience, and proven capacity to drive high level outcomes in a credible and authoritative manner. The Chairperson must have proven capacity to respond sensitively to multiple stakeholders, with demonstrated skills in community and stakeholder engagement.
