Barrick operates the wholly owned Lawlers Gold Mine located in the North Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, approximately 35kms west of Leinster. The Lawlers Gold Mine produces 100,000 oz of gold from 750,000 tonnes of ore each year
This is a rare opportunity for a proactive and results focused Geotechnical Engineer to take a lead role in establishing the geotechnical processes and systems. This includes monitoring, data collection, interpretation and design criteria for the current and planned mine schedule.
Reporting to the Underground Manager, the Geotechnical Engineer will have the following responsibilities:
• Provide geotechnical information to and liaise with other mining and geology personnel to ensure optimal extraction of the underground ore bodies while conforming with legislated geotechnical requirements
• Refine stope designs and extraction sequences with the aim of maximising ore recovery whilst minimising dilution.
• Monitor quality control of ground support installation and subsequent effectiveness of ground support.
• Collecting, analysing and reporting of geotechnical data.
• Reporting in writing on geotechnical analyses, risk assessment and inspection.
• Training of operators and staff in ground awareness.
• Underground project works and studies.
The successful candidate will have the following:
• Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Membership of AusIMM
• At least 2 years’ relevant experience, some in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine
• Geotechnical mapping, logging, geotechnical data analysis and design
• Experience with mine design software, preferably Vulcan.
• Experience with geotechnical software, DIPS, UNWEDGE, Map3D
• Detailed working knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations
