Senior Engineer - Mine Planning

Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation (KUCC), a world-class mining and mineral processing company, in Salt Lake City, Utah is searching for a Senior Mine Planning Engineer at its Bingham Canyon Mine.
Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for the economic optimization of Kennecott Utah Copper's Open-Pit mining activities by developing long-range (quarterly, annual, and life-of-mine) plans.
  • Communicate long term plan to Upper Management and Engineering Groups.
  • Development of mine planning tools.
  • Lead the Short Term Planners in the implementation of the long term mine plan.
  • Perform option and sensitivity analysis of mine plans.
  • Develop and maintain mine designs in conjunction with the Geologic Services and Resource Development Groups.
  • Continuously improve the value and accuracy of the planning process.
  • Incorporate power, drainage, roads and other mine infrastructure into the long term plans.
  • Continue to optimize dump and closure plans.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Drive Zero Harm Safety Culture. Ensure compliance with KUC safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.
  • B. S. Degree in Mining Engineering or a related degree and a minimum of 8 years experience, or a M. S. Degree and a minimum of 5 years related experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • The ability to effectively use mine planning software, specifically Mintec's MineSight, and Microsoft Office is required with Whittle experience preferred.
  • Use of team skills in participative problem solving, project implementation and continuous improvement is essential.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of financial accounting is preferred, NPV analysis.
