Internship/Graduates , Delegation of the European Union to Egypt
The Delegation of the European Union to Egypt is offering 3 unpaid internships of four/six months for individuals who wish to gain firsthand experience of working as part of the European External Action Service in Egypt.
The Delegation requires interns to work within the Political Affairs and Information Section.
There is a need for:
- A Political Affairs intern, dealing with ongoing developments on domestic Egyptian politics, internal and domestic security, and foreign affairs. Duties will involve drafting reports and briefs on meeting and conferences, analysis of contemporary events and changing situations, note-taking during meetings and updating databases when required.
- A Human Rights intern, dealing with the domestic human rights situation and political developments. The intern will assist the Human Rights Adviser in monitoring developments and compiling briefs for member states and Brussels and note-taking during meetings. The position also involves interaction with local human rights activists and other relevant actors.
- A Press and Info intern, assessing and monitoring Egyptian and Arabic language media, and assisting in Delegation press conferences and events as well as assisting in the preparation of the Daily Press Reviews.
The Delegation works from offices in Cairo and as part of the Political Affairs and Information Section successful applicants will be given an unparalleled insight into international diplomacy in one of the Arab world's pivotal states.
All interns will be expected and required to assist in note taking and administrative tasks when required.
Eligibility:
Citizenship: All applicants must have the citizenship of one of the Member States of the EU and enjoy full citizen's rights.

Military service:
Applicants shall have fulfilled any obligation concerning military service according to applicable laws in their respective countries or give assurances to the effect that they will not be called up during their traineeship.

University diploma:
Applicants must hold, by the closing date for applications, at least a university degree equivalent to a Master's degree. For the Political Affairs and the Human Rights interns, degrees in international relations; political science; human rights, or Middle Eastern affairs are desired. The Press intern should have degrees in communications or media studies, with an accompanying knowledge of Arabic and Arabic media.

Applicants should possess a strong command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU languages will be an asset but not essential. Within the daily routine of the Political Affairs and Information Section knowledge of Media Arabic is desirable, but not essential.

The Press Intern should have very good knowledge of the Arabic language. Expertise in Media Arabic is essential for the tasks they will assist in.
Professional experience:
Applicants are not required to have professional experience, but previous work experience in a field of work of the Delegation is an asset.
Skills:
Applicants should be experienced in writing reports and have excellent summary skills; briefs are frequently required to be concise and produced on tight deadlines. A strong understanding of regional politics is highly recommended. Applicants should have an idea about the media scene in Egypt and good working knowledge of social media in addition to good writing, summarizing skills – this is particularly important for the Press Intern.
