BP Head of Global Macroeconomics

Position Summary
The Economics Team provides expertise on global economic issues, and on oil, gas and refining markets that may affect the Group’s current or prospective performance.
Based in the Corporate Head office in London, St James’s Square, the Head of Global Macroeconomics contributes to the teams overall delivery by providing analysis of the global economy and key regional markets/countries – the key determinant of energy consumption.
With the support of team members located in the UK, US, China, India and Russia, the role leads the gathering and analysis of macroeconomic and energy data from around the world to identify and communicate the impact of global economic developments which will have an impact on energy demand, supply and trade.
Key accountabilities
  • Provide short-term economic outlooks and other briefing materials  to the BP Board,  Executive Team and wider organisation; Establish and maintain a set of assumptions for economic growth, inflation and exchange rates which support the analysis of the rest of the Economics team; Contribute to the publication of  BP’s Energy Outlook, a forward projection of energy markets, by leading  research streams and energy economic analysis, which shapes the Energy Outlook narrative; Contribute to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy by leading on “The Economy” section ; Produce nuclear energy and hydroelectricity statistical tables, analysis and presentations; -Establish and maintain Group-wide planning assumptions (exchange rates, GDP growth and inflation rate) for over 90 countries; Publish the Global Economic Risk report including written analysis of key global macroeconomic risks.  Input to risk assessment studies for countries where BP operates or where future access is being considered; Act as an ambassador to BP in relevant external forums;
Essential Education
Graduate degree in economics – A Masters or PhD advantageous.
Essential experience
  • Extensive experience in macroeconomic analysis and its interface with energy markets; Experience in applying economic analysis and communicating the results clearly to a non-specialist and/or commercial audience.
