Technical Director, Natural Resource Management

Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development, and food security to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil societies. ACDI/VOCA has approximately 70 projects in 35 countries and total revenues of approximately $173 million.
We are seeking a D.C.-based Technical Director, Natural Resource Management who will provide technical expertise in the area of natural resource management (NRM) and climate change adaptation to support ACDI/VOCA’s projects with agricultural production and resiliency components, new business development efforts, staff development, and engagement with partners.
Responsibilities include:
• Act as the point person for the integration of NRM and climate change adaptation into projects
• Coordinate with other departments as necessary to increase technical skills of field and headquarters staff by identifying needs and collaborating on trainings and/or information resources; participate as a mentor in the staff development program
• Participate in project management as NRM and climate change point person for assigned projects; provide or facilitate environmental assessments required by funders and ACDI/VOCA policy
• Develop, contribute to, provide technical guidance on, and/or provide technical quality control to new business proposals in technical areas related to NRM and climate change adaptation
• Contribute to proposal efforts by providing extensive technical content
• Develop learning products; develop training curricula and job aids to accompany products
• Gather information from field offices and implement improvements
• Respond to technical needs from project staff and others
• Collaborate with Communications and Outreach to market ACDI/VOCA’s achievements in technical learning related to NRM and climate change
• Identify partners and build effective professional partnerships that help ACDI/VOCA achieve its goals in this technical area
A master’s degree required in natural resource management, agriculture, or other related field with a minimum of seven years’ experience in international development or related field required. Candidates must have experience with multimedia applications and Microsoft Office programs. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent written, oral, and reading comprehension abilities. Foreign language fluency strongly preferred. This position requires international travel to developing countries.
