Knowledge Management Intern, Library Development

TechnoServe, Inc. is an international nonprofit development organization founded in 1968. Our mission is to help entrepreneurial men and women in poor rural areas of the developing world to build businesses that create jobs, income and economic opportunity for their families, their communities and their countries.

Our work focuses on identifying promising business opportunities with a positive economic role for and impact on the rural poor, and facilitating the business linkages and partnerships needed to make deals occur. In addition to market linkages, we also provide credit linkages through loan guarantees and the sourcing of debt capital through commercial banks, and in improving managerial talent through transfer of skills to client firms.

II. BACKGROUND ON KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT:

Undertaken as an explicit initiative in 2009, TechnoServe is building a global knowledge management architecture that will bolster the efficiency and impact of our work. To this end, the nascent knowledge management team is currently executing a number of initiatives that will enhance our ability as an organization to replicate best practices and collaborate. The focus of this work is on facilitating the sharing of tools, experiences and lessons learned from our teams in Africa, Latin America and India working with entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers.

III. PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION:

The primary purpose of this role is to support the knowledge management team in building a corporate library system. This will involve scanning and reviewing key documents in an effort to more effectively provide access to the wealth of knowledge accumulated across the organization over the course of the last 42 years. In doing so, it is expected that you will begin to refine the tagging system and support the development of an integrated methodological framework across the organization.

As the knowledge management team continues to grow in scope of work and responsibility, there may be additional activities to undertake as the internship evolves.
