Sales and Application Specialist – West Africa

Location: Ghana

Role (Summary of the main purpose and fundamental goals of the Position)
  • Provide product and applications support for the firm’s business throughout the French speaking West African Countries, including problem solving, training and demonstrations.
  • Supports the sales in the appointed regions.
  • Influence opinion leaders regarding the features and benefits of our Diagnostic Systems solutions.

Indirect Reporting Lines:

Staff Reporting to this Position: N/A

Key Internal Contacts: Sales managers and application specialists.

Key External Contacts: End users, distributors and opinion leaders (laboratory managers and directors), National Program Managers (eg TB, HIV, …)

Key Tasks & Responsibilities: (focus on entire processes and results achieved in order of priority and time spent)

1. Provide product and applications support for end users and distributors throughout the West Africa Region including:
  • Provide in-house and on-site trainings (basic or advanced) for customers.
  • Provide internal training for the in house team and distributor sales reps and application specialists.
  • Provide intensive and ongoing coaching and development for the in house team and distributor application specialist, including regular support.
  • Provide demonstrations of existing & new products to customers (end users & distributors).
  • Support Sales Managers in launching new products.
  • Participating in country workshops, seminar exhibitions or trade shows.
  • Answering customer’s questions about product, applications, and software and instrument problems.
2. Promote best practice and our solutions to key opinion leaders and key decision leaders in relation to features, advantages and benefits of our solutions. Such activities will be closely aligned to sales strategies and in close cooperation with sales managers. Helps the local Sales manager with proper product positioning support applicable for the assigned region.

3. Coordinate and manage complaint handling for all West African markets.

4. Support teamwork and the sharing of ideas and information between businesses throughout West Africa. Ensure that our professional and ethical standards are maintained.

5. Acts as a backup for his Application Specialist colleagues in West Africa.

Person Specification: (General guidelines for the typical minimum requirements for this position)

Education and Qualifications: Will ideally be educated to Degree level, either in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry or medicine. Alternative qualifications could be considered, dependent upon professional experience.

Professional Skills & Experience: Will have at least 3 years within a bench experience in a lab/ hospital/university microbiology laboratory. Additional commercial/marketing experience and/or exposure to IT/technology would be an advantage.

Other Requirements:
  • Fluency in French and English as a second language will be an advantage.

  • Will demonstrate the potential and willingness to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Able to undertake extensive and frequent travel throughout the West Africa and occasional travel to other company locations.
