Executive Director

The Action Group for Health, Human Rights, and HIV/AIDS (AGHA) is a Ugandan NGO founded in 2003 to mobilize health professionals and health consumers to address issues of human rights as they relate to health with a specific focus on HIV/AIDS. AGHA brings together doctors, nurses and other professionals with NGOs interested in promoting human rights in the health sector to create local and national networks dedicated to health rights advocacy.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
AGHA invites qualified women and men candidates to apply for the Position of Executive Director to expand and enhance their current programmes and lead the staff team in high impact health and human rights initiatives.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Head the AGHA Secretariat and provide leadership and management to staff and programs;
• Work with the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees to implement AGHA's Strategic plan
• Develop Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for AGHA activities;
• Monitor, evaluate and analyze trends and policy issues relevant to leadership on right to health; design and implement strategies to achieve policy objectives;
• Interface with Ministry of Health, Finance. Parliament and other key stakeholders to advance health sector advocacy and health rights;
• Network with civil society organizations, training schools and health professional associations to build a health workers movement for health and human rights advocacy and education;
• Spearhead fundraising efforts research related to health and human rights;
• Write and produce reports and informative briefings and other materials for AGHA's campaigns;
• Represent AGHA at related commissions, coalitions, Committees and the medias.

Job requirement

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate is an ambitious, self-motivated, creative, strategic thinker with substantial senior-level experience managing staff and working on health policy advocacy and human rights in Uganda:
• Masters degree required, preferably in human rights, medicine, public health, economics, or social sciences: health professionals encouraged to apply.
• Expertise (minimum of 5 years) and proven track record in senior management with extensive experience and demonstrated skill in supervising staff and building dynamic
• Experience in the conception, design and management of strategies, initiatives, campaigns and programs relating to motivating government responses to health/and or right to health;
• Knowledge of health sector policy, key stakeholders, trends and frameworks;
• Experience in fundraising, with connection to local and international flinders and agencies;
• Experience in training and facilitating advocacy, policy, human rights or community dialogues, debates and or
• Exceptional writing, public speaking, internal and external communication and editing skills; research experience a plus with experience in strategic data collection for advocacy
• Excellent computer skills including mastery of Microsoft suite and internet research
• Knowledge of human rights advocacy is an added advantage;
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
