Background:
The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (1DI) is to build capacity of health systems in Africa for the delivery of sustainable, high quality care and prevention of HIV/AIDS and related infectious diseases through training, research, and advanced clinical services. IDI has four operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-John Hopkins University Core Lab.
As part of the expansion of the national care and
treatment response, IDI has recently been awarded
a grant through the Civil Society Fund to scale up
access to innovative Hi V/AIDS-care, treatment and
support services that are evidence based. Through
this Civil Society Fund/Regional Referral Hospitals
(CSF/RRH) Project, 1DI will closely work with
eight Regional Referral Hospitals, Civil Society
Organizations as well as communities.
The project will significantly contribute to the care and
treatment targets within the national HIV/ AIDS
strategic plan (MSP) of Uganda.
IDL therefore seeks suitably qualified candidates to
fill the project based positions as follows:


3. JOB TITLE: LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST (1)
Reports to: Laboratory Specialist Responsibilities
1) Daily check on sample labels/ bar coding to ensure proper clerking in of samples and record and report all errors that may occur in the processing
2) Daily monitoring of the lab equipment for their functioning and record and report all technical problems with the equipment to the Lab Supervisor
3) Ensure regular supply of consumables for the lab through timely report of shortages to the Lab Specialist.
4) Assist the Lab Specialist in maintaining ledgers and Stock registers
5) Adherence to cleaning and safety protocols in the lab
6) Report on the equipment and the functioning of the Lab to the Lab Supervisor.
7) Support blood and other sample collection and processing for all patients in the HIV/AIDS care clinic at the Regional Referral Hospitals
8) Follow up blood and other samples collected patient from the time of collection till the laboratory results have been reviewed by the attending doctor
9) Other duties as they will be assigned by the Lab Specialist

Job requirement

Minimum qualifications:
• Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
• Relevant working experience is an added advantage.

Requirements:
• Experience in Medical laboratory or related field, able to work in a team
• Good interpersonal skills and be able to interact productively and accurately with other team members.
• Self 'motivated, innovative and capable of meeting deadlines
• Experience of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) would also be an advantage.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Should be computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
