Objectives

Duties and responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Task Manager, the Research Assistant identifies sources of relevant information and extracts, compiles, analyses and presents this information for internal use – for the preparation of reports, Evaluation analyses, presentations, project documents and other documentation by the program.

In particular the incumbent will undertake the following duties:

  • Identifying and accessing possible sources of existing information relevant to the subject of study (normally Bank policies, projects and programs) and extract the information;
  • Assisting in the preparation of operations evaluation missions conducted by professionals staff and/ or consultants and participates on missions as required and providing logistical support to the program during conferences and workshops both in and outside of the Headquarters;
  • Identifying and contacting internal and external sources – stakeholders to seek required information.
  • Select, comply, synthesizing and present the results of the research for the preparation of operation evaluations and brief notes for meetings, workshops, presentations, and respond to internal and external queries or related issues;
  • Consolidating, categorizing and maintaining background information and records on relevant issues, developing related databases and information systems and updating them accordingly;
  • Writing summaries and notes and preparing drafts, information packages and presentations for use as reference in discussions and briefings;
  • Filtering internal and external queries on evaluation issues, answering and/or directing them for further consideration, as appropriate;
  • Responding to internal and external queries as related to status of OPEV documents preparation, including those for workshops and official meetings
  • Identifying needs for supporting documentation and undertaking research accordingly;
  • Reporting on developments within the work program;
  • Perform other duties as may arise.

This Position Does Not Attract International Terms and Conditions

(Incumbents of the post will be considered as local staff and will therefore not have international status)

Selection Criteria

  • Education: At least Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent qualification in economics and/or statistics; a post graduate degree or an advanced training in economics and/or statistics an advantage
  • Experience: 5 years experience in research and good quantitative/statistical skills
  • Computer skills: Fully proficient computer skills and use of software such as Word, Excel and Power Point, internal databases and other relevant software applications. Skills in SAP are desirable.
  • Communication: Good communication skills in English or French with a working knowledge of the other language.
  • Professionalism: good understanding of the functions, organization and procedures of the Bank. Ability to demonstrate considerable initiative. Effective research and problem solving skills.
  • Planning & Organizing: Excellent organizational skills. Ability to prioritize own work program . Ability to deliver assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Teamwork: Very good interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multicultural environment.
  • Learning: Commitment to continuous learning and proactive and mature attitude towards self-development.
