The Korea Economic Institute (KEI) is one of the preeminent U.S.-Korea policy research / education outreach institutions in Washington, DC. KEI is currently seeking for immediate hire a new Director of Finance and Human Resources. Below is an outline of the core responsibilities for this position. In addition, desired traits and additional growth opportunities for the individual in this position are listed. A deep interest and experience in US-Korea issues, Korean-American affairs, and US foreign policy are a plus. Korean language capabilities are desired but not required.

Core Required Responsibilities

1. Finance

Manage and regularly report on KEI's financial records:

  • Manage invoices, reimbursement vouchers and other check writing activities
  • Administer employee payroll and 401K contributions
  • Manage all KEI bank and corporate credit accounts
  • Generate monthly statements of account balances
  • Regularly report and advise executive officers on financial status of events/programs
  • Recommend and draft annual KEI budget projections
  • Liaise and work with auditors/accounting firms to ensure accounting integrity

2. Human Resources Management

Serve as Employee Benefit Administrator:

  • Oversee and implement employee benefits, including payment of health insurance, annuities, & severance pay
  • Research and monitor changes in benefits
  • Advise employees on all aspects of KEI compensation/benefits package
  • Serve as primary liaison between benefits vendors and KEI
  • Maintain employee leave/vacation accounts
  • Provide input on new employees' performance when the probationary period is complete.
  • Manage and prepare for future personnel changes

3. Office Administration

  • Prepare budget estimate for upgrade and technical support of KEI system in conjunction with Director of Communication
  • Oversee contracts with vendors for facility maintenance, leasing, etc.
  • Coordinate semiannual Department of Justice reports

Potential Program and Research Responsibilities (Desired Traits/Growth Opportunities)

Responsible for selected KEI Programs:

  • Organize and implement ad hoc programs such as visits of delegations from government agencies, policy programs, and cultural events

Individuals fluent in Korean will have opportunity to:

  • Represent KEI vis-à-vis Senior Korean officials and guests
  • Maintain contacts with Korean Embassy officials and other Korea representatives in the Washington, DC Korea policy communities
  • Assist President on outreach to Korean government and Korean-American, businesses and academic communities in the United States

Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or with emphasis in Accounting (Advanced degree preferred); Commensurate work experience is acceptable.
  • Three to five years supervisory experience in account management and human resources management
  • Advanced experience in accounting programs (such as Quicken)
  • Demonstrated abilities in leadership, strategic planning, and
  • Demonstrated work in non-profit setting; Work in Asia-related organization is a plus
  • Korean language capabilities a plus
