The programmes we use to do this are wide-ranging and cover the arts, education, English, science and society.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Country Director to lead the development and delivery of the country strategy for France, ensuring it meets the required cultural relations, business and operational objectives, is appropriately aligned to wider corporate strategies and achieves maximum impact for the UK.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following essential knowledge & experience
  • Management experience at senior level leading  a large diverse and complex operation
  • Strong record in business development and financial literacy
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills at senior level
  • Experience of motivating teams to deliver and achieve results
  • Strong negotiating skills
Some of the main opportunities/challenges include:
  • Lead on ensuring a thorough understanding of the country context and the identification of possible opportunities for the British Council to make a difference for the UK and France.
  • Work with regional HR/Finance/SBU colleagues and relevant members of the country team to agree optimal resource allocation, organisational structures and staff deployment to enable effective and efficient achievement of the country plan.
  • Personally lead the development and management of senior relationships with key agencies, partners and individuals, as required, to support the achievement of business development strategies and plans.
  • Lead the effective financial management of the France operation, ensuring income and expenditure targets are met, whilst also ensuring that appropriate controls are maintained at all times.
  • Contribute to the implementation of global strategy through leading or participating in a range of corporate initiatives as required.
