The Organisation
The British Council was founded to create ‘a friendly knowledge and understanding’ between the people of the UK and wider world by making a positive contribution to the countries we work with, and in doing so making a lasting difference to the UK’s international standing, prosperity and security. The programmes we use to do this are wide-ranging and cover the arts, education, English, science and society.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Director Punjab to lead the development and delivery the Country Plan for Pakistan, ensuring it meets the required cultural relations, business and operational objectives and is appropriately aligned to wider corporate strategies.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following essential knowledge & experience
  • Management experience at senior level leading a medium-large, diverse and complex operation internationally
  • Strong record in business development and financial literacy
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills at senior level
  • Ability to operate in a high risk security and financial environment
  • Experience of motivating teams to deliver in difficult environments and achieve results
Some of the main opportunities/challenges include:
  • Leading on ensuring a thorough understanding of the country and provincial context and the identification of possible opportunities for the British Council to make a difference for the UK and Pakistan
  • Developing both the medium term strategy and annual business plans for Pakistan
  • Acting as the public face of the British Council in Punjab, leading and contributing to relevant public debate in ways which strengthen the UK’s and the organisation’s reputation and positioning with a range of stakeholders.
  • Supporting the effective financial management of activity in Punjab, ensuring income and expenditure targets are met, whilst also ensuring that appropriate controls are maintained at all times.
  • Contributing actively and share strategy, leadership, policy and decision making, including impact and income within a matrix working environment.
  • Contributing to the implementation of global strategy through leading or participating in a range of corporate initiatives as required.
