About the Tax Team:
Shell has a large in-house tax organisation with staff in around 40 countries.  The UK tax team consists of tax advisers based in London and Aberdeen and work together with specialist areas in Indirect Tax, Employment Tax, Transfer Pricing and Treasury Tax.  In 2015, Shell paid approx $1bn in corporation tax, indirect taxes and PRT in the UK and we have approx over 100 legal entities in the UK Group.
 
What will you do?
This is an exciting opportunity for a recently qualified tax advisor with demonstrative experience to join a great team.  Here are some of the other things you'll do in this role:
 
  • Managing tax advice to a portfolio of UK legal entities, with particular focus on
    - Corporate Sector Holdings & Treasury
    - Projects & Technology
  • Liaising with both Shell’s onshore and offshore UK tax teams to ensure that appropriate advice is given to stakeholders and that related compliance and reporting requirements have been managed.
  • The provision of concise, accurate, comprehensive, intelligible and timely UK tax advice to Shell stakeholders.
  • The quality and delivery of domestic tax advice within the UK for area of focus, but is expected to support other businesses and activities across Shell as priorities demand.
  • Identify and resolve UK tax technical problems by facilitating the resolution of problems individually or as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Identify, develop and analyse tax and cash flow savings.
  • Provide tax input to portfolio projects as requested.
  • Develop, analyse and support implementation of value-added tax planning ideas for the UK
  • Supporting UK Senior Tax Adviser with the management of Shell’s relationship with HMRC to achieve real time compliance, including managing audit enquires, negotiating settlements and resolving controversies through domestic litigation and international treaty procedures.
  • Supporting the development of Shell’s tax policy in the UK including formal engagement with the UK government on legislative consultations and influencing business/other stakeholders to advocate shell’s position on significant tax issues.
What we need from you:
You'll be a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA or equivalent) and you’ll have trained with one of the larger public accountancy practices or a large multinational company. You'll have a deep knowledge of the UK corporation tax system and have a particular understanding of the current issues affecting multi-national groups.
You'll also:

  • Build effective relationships across the business, our shared service centres, group reporting, and our auditors.
  • You’ll have proven experience in analysing complex issues, managing your demanding workload effectively in a constantly changing and pressured environment whilst ensuring deadlines are met.
