Deputy Country Director Bangladesh

We have an excellent opportunity for a Deputy Director Bangladesh to lead programme delivery, to inform the strategic development of British Council Bangladesh, to support the wider British Council, reach and engage with core audiences in Bangladesh and to contribute to the region’s development through support for core initiatives.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following essential knowledge & experience
  • Management experience at senior level leading a medium-large, diverse and complex operation internationally
  • Strong record in business development and financial literacy
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills at senior level
  • Ability to operate in a high risk security and financial environment
  • Experience of motivating teams to deliver in difficult environments and achieve results
Some of the main opportunities/challenges include:
  • To ensure all our programmes are audience led and aligned to strategic geographical priorities
  • To develop and deliver a portfolio of FCR, Grant and Partnership programmes to realise our ambitions and business targets
  • To further develop the already significant pipeline of Full Cost Recovery opportunities in the field of education/English, skills (e.g. GoB – indicative GBP10-15m; EU pagoda - EUR 10m indicative); justice (DFID GBP 9-10m indicative; SPF, CSSF and Prosperity Funds also a possibility)
  • Moving the programmes team towards a Professional Services Model
  • To be a major strategic partner for FCR work in a highly internationally competitive market and increase access to high levels of internal expertise
  • To support the Business Development Team to shift perceptions of what the British Council does with investors and partners.
  • To lead training and skills development across teams on financial modelling
