Legal Trainee EMEA

Company: fast-growing premium footwear brand from Brazil, is looking to recruit a trainee in-house counsel to join its European legal department, based in its European headquarters in Madrid.

Purpose of the Role: To provide the Trainee with the opportunity to develop, practise and gain experience in a wide range of legal matters, including contentious and non-contentious work, with a focus on intellectual property law.

Key responsibilities:

• Monitoring the internet including social networks at European level to identify trademark infringements
• Draft prelitigation letters to infringers
• Active follow up on reported infringements and violations of the company’s IPR
• Keep track of upcoming deadlines
• Maintenance and control of disputes database
• Assisting with the preparation of litigation files
• Legal research: monitoring trademarks and designs legislation together with national and European case law
• General assistance on all legal issues and in particular those in connection with the retail business
• Assist in the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial agreements
• Liaising with external counsel in multiple jurisdictions

Capabilities (Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities including Technical Requirements):

• Qualified attorney
• Overall broad legal knowledge and in particular of the IP field
• Strong language skills – fluent written and spoken English being a must (working language)
• International experience
