The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of national and international migration policies, seeks one or more exceptional analysts to help anchor key parts of the Institute's International Program. The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will be to contribute to the Institute's work on US and comparative international immigration policies, conducting research on the economic, social, and political impacts of immigration and immigration policy across the world. The successful candidate will be deeply knowledgeable about the immigration and immigrant-integration systems of two or more immigrant-receiving countries in addition to the United States. Demonstrated familiarity with key portions of the migration research literature is a must. Salary (and title) will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Write and contribute to reports and policy briefs on immigration policies in the United States and Europe, using a well-informed comparative frame
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research on immigration policies in the advanced industrialized world, including analysis of the economic and social effects of immigration policies and the effectiveness of immigrant integration programs
  • Commission, manage, and edit publications from external authors
  • Initiate ideas for new and ongoing projects
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues based primarily in North America and in Europe, as well as with outside stakeholders
  • Support other MPI staff with research, interpretation of data, organizing research seminars, events, and conferences

Qualification:
  • Graduate or professional degree(s) with several years of relevant experience
  • Experience conducting comparative research on immigration policies
  • Broad knowledge of policies in the fields of labor migration, migration management, and immigrant integration outside of the United States; this knowledge must be anchored in a fluent understanding of how each society (and government) is organized
  • Extensive understanding of key similarities and differences between governments' approaches to immigration and immigrant-integration policy; expertise on immigration in the European Union, EU Member States, and Five Country Conference nations is particularly valued
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms
  • Proven skill in generating, developing, and carrying through ideas for projects and high-level events
  • Fluency in one or more major European languages
  • Strong understanding of economics and/or statistics desired
