Haiti Programme Manager

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.

Following the Earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010, under the coordination framework of the international Federation of Red Cross/Crescent Societies, BRC established an integrated programme to assist affected communities to recover from the disaster. A survey of a camp population in Port au Prince in 2010 identified livelihood as a primary need with shelter and sanitation as additional support mechanisms. The BRC team developed an integrated recovery programme to support the earthquake affected camp population to return to their original neighbourhood.

The livelihoods programme is well developed and progressing. The shelter programme is still in the development stage identifying through community participation approaches and solutions of providing appropriate shelter solutions in a complex confined urban environment.

The programme manager will work with both livelihoods and shelter management teams to finalise and deliver an integrated coordinated programme in Delmas (19) Port au Prince.

Job Purpose

To provide coordination and management to develop and deliver the British Red Cross (BRC) Integrated Recovery Programme in Delmas 19 Port au Prince within an agreed time frame.

To represent BRCS in external coordination bodies and within the Red Cross Movement.

To participate in the development and delivery of a clear concise exit strategy.

Job Information

Location: Port au Prince, Haiti

Salary: from £30,755 per annum plus excellent benefits including daily living allowance, accommodation, medical, vaccinations, insurance, luggage shipment allowance (subject to change).

Contract: Full time. 12 month Fixed Term Contact (extendable).
