GIS SPECIALIST– Liberia

GIS SPECIALIST– Liberia Tetra Tech ARD (http://www.ardinc.com), a leading international development consulting firm based in Burlington, Vermont and Washington, D.C., is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a GIS Expert on a multi-year USAID-funded forest management and biodiversity program in West Africa. The program’s overall goal is to advance the policy and practice of forest resource management and biodiversity conservation in Liberia while supporting the development of livelihood alternatives to forest-dependent communities. Full-time contract will be for one year. Position will be located at Project Office in Monrovia, Liberia.

Responsibilities: • Assisting staff in multiple locations with the development and delivery of GIS based information products in support of project objectives. • Provide training to field based project staff in the use of geospatial tools and methods related to community forestry • Lead the application of GIS in all facets of the forestry project including activity planning, monitoring & evaluation and public outreach and awareness building.

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Geography or IT related field • Advanced knowledge and experience in the application of GIS technology including spatial analysis and quantitative methods • Well versed in spatial information processing and management in support of forestry applications • At least 3 years experience in GIS analysis and map making using ESRI software. • Analyze and interpret spatial data to produce maps, reports, and other products. • Understanding of GIS data models, standards and metadata. • Able to explain to project staff in non-technical language requirements and solutions. • When necessary be self-directed but also work well within a team environment. • Excellent writing and communication skills in English
