COSMOS Consortium Parallel Programmer

A position exists for a Computer Officer/Parallel Programmer to work in high performance computing for the COSMOS Consortium. The appointee will support the consortium's investigations of models of the early universe and their observational consequences. The person will be based in Cambridge where the COSMOS@DiRAC supercomputer is housed but they will support the work of COSMOS users around the UK. The work will involve assisting in the effective exploitation of the large shared-memory HPC systems (SGI Altix UV1000 and UV2000, boosted by a number of Intel Xeon Phi co-processors) through OpenMP, MPI and hybrid programming, as well as maintaining web-based documentation, providing user training and education. The appointee will also help develop and implement visual applications to improve remote interactive use of the central facilities and provide absence cover for the COSMOS System Manager.
The successful candidate will have programming experience in C/C++ and Fortran, and familiarity with OpenMP and MPI on HPC systems is essential. There will be an opportunity for the advanced parallel programming and optimisation training in close collaboration with SGI and Intel developers.
Informal enquiries can be made by contacting Professor Paul Shellard (ctc@damtp.cam.ac.uk).
